Fourth foot overbridge at Bandra opens to public

The Western Railway opened a fourth foot overbridge to public at the Bandra station on Monday.

The Western Railway (WR) opened a fourth foot overbridge (FOB) to public at the Bandra station on Monday.

The 3-metre wide bridge connects platform no. 1 with platform no. 7 and joins adjoining central foot-over bridge at Bandra. Earlier,Bandra station had three FOBs — two at Churchgate and Borivali end and the third in between these two.

Bandra is one of the busiest and crowded stations on the suburban railway. It is not only a terminal station for the WR,but even the Central Railway (CR) harbour line trains start and terminate at Bandra. Many commuters also use the station to reach the business district of BKC.

The existing FOBs at the station were not sufficient during the peak hours and the middle FOB was the most used one,as it connected the east and the west sides of Bandra and also the newly-built skywalk.

The work for the latest over bridge started in January 2008 at the cost of Rs 2.5 crore. There are 75 foot over bridges in the suburban section of the WR.
