The Ahmednagar rural police on Friday seized four trucks carrying explosives and gelatin sticks near Valki village in Nagar taluka, about 20 km from the district headquarters.
Police suspect that the seized explosives were part of 300 tonnes of explosives that had gone missing along with 60 trucks carrying them to Sagar in Madhya Pradesh from a Rajasthan plant between April and July this year.
They have also sealed a store house in Valki where explosives are stored. They said the numbers of the seized trucks did not match with any of those missing. There are chances that some tampering was done with the number plates or the explosives were shifted from the original vehicles. We are investigating the matter further. No case has been registered, a senior officer said.
Ahmednagar superintendent of police Krishna Prakash said,As per our information, the explosives were meant to be transported to one Ganesh Explosives in Sagar about four months ago. Some of them were suspected to have landed in Ahmednagar. We searched the company premises and found these trucks parked outside… We are in touch with the office of controller of explosives in Nagpur. We have also come to know that two persons,Jaikishanm Aswani and Shivcharan Heda, are involved in diverting the consignment of explosives to various places using fake licences. Of them,Aswani is from Sagar. It is possible that the trucks were here for three-four days.
Police said the mining lobbies in various states were suspected to be involved in smuggling of explosives. They also said the involvement of quarrying firms in and around Ahmednagar could not be ruled out in the case.
