Four persons were arrested by a joint team of officers from the Bandra police station and the Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Friday for allegedly kidnapping a 12-year-old boy from outside his school in Bandra on Monday.

Four persons were arrested by a joint team of officers from the Bandra police station and the Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Friday for allegedly kidnapping a 12-year-old boy from outside his school in Bandra on Monday. The boy,Eric Fernandes, was reunited with his parents on Wednesday. The accused have been remanded to police custody until February 2.

The accused have been identified as Niranjan Mishra,Vedprakash Yadav,Abdul Satar and A Lokpande. Officers alleged Mishra was the mastermind behind the kidnapping.

The incident took place on Monday, when the boy’s father Pravin had dropped him outside St Andrew’s School in Bandra.

“After dropping Eric at school at 6.45 am,Pravin received a call at 8 am saying that his son had been kidnapped. He received another call at 11 am demanding Rs 50 lakh as ransom for his son’s release. When Pravin told them that he had a decoration business and will not be able to pay that much amount, then the ransom amount was reduced to Rs 5 lakh,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 9) Pratap Dighavkar.

A case of kidnapping was then registered at the Bandra Police Station.

Dighavkar said the kidnappers called again and told Pravin to board the Sahyadri Express and drop the money at Karjat railway station on Tuesday.

“After Pravin boarded the train he received a call saying that the plan had changed and that the bag should now be dropped off at Wangni railway station. After a while,he received yet another call, which said the bag should now be dropped off at Sheru Village. The accused said they got this idea after watching a movie from the 1970’s,which showed kidnappers changing their plans at the last minute to avoid being caught,” he said.
