Four constables suspended for partying inside inspector’s cabin

The incident came to light when one of their colleagues at Bhandup police station allegedly shot a video of the act and sent it to their superiors.

Four constables posted at Bhandup police station in Mumbai have been suspended from the department for allegedly partying on the premises of the police station. Officials said that while three of them were suspended for partying and “unlawful act” inside the cabin of an inspector, the fourth constable was punished for not reporting it to the superiors.

According to police, the four constables have been identified as Sunil Kank, Shailesh Patole, Manohar Shinde and Premchand Sawant. The incident took place on October 25 but the suspension order was issued late last week.

An officer said, “At around 2 pm on October 25, constables Kank, Patole and Shinde went inside the cabin of the inspector who is given the portfolio of law and order and partied in his cabin.”

Constable Sawant, an assistant to the police inspector, was present inside the cabin but did not party, the officer said. “However, he did not stop them from doing the said act or give information about the matter to his superiors even when it was necessary,” read his suspension order.

The incident came to light when one of their colleagues at Bhandup police station allegedly shot a video of the act and sent it to their superiors.

Senior officers ordered an inquiry into the incident and an assistant commissioner of police rank officer was assigned to probe the matter.

Officials added that the constables had violated rule number 3 of the Maharashtra Civil Services Rules, 1979 (Conduct).

“The officials have been suspended from service with immediate effect from the date of receipt of the order subject to the preliminary/departmental inquiry to be conducted against him, subject to the provisions of Rule 3 of the Mumbai Police (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 1956,” read their suspension order.
