Claiming it as a mere publicity gimmick with no intentions to forge the letter head of Mumbai Police Commissioners office, filmmaker Sanjay Gupta moved an anticipatory bail application on Saturday.
The hearing on the application is scheduled on March 5,until which the court has granted him interim relief from arrest. According to the police,Gupta and Ekta Kapoors Balaji Motion Pictures sent out invitation cards containing the imprint of the commissioners rubber stamp, for the launch of his film Shootout at Wadala, and also allegedly mentioned that the commissioner would be conducting a press conference to speak on the crime rates in the city.
However,in the application Gupta claimed that the invitation carried a disclaimer clearly mentioning it was a publicity handout and no where the logo or the signature were forged. Gupta has been booked under various charges of IPC for forgery with the purpose of cheating, and for possession of a forged document with the intention of using it as genuine, and under the Information Technology Act.
Balaji Motion Pictures (Producer) and Glamsham.com (Bollywood movie portal) have also been booked for misusing the name of the office of the Mumbai Police Commissioner by using the rubber stamp of police to promote their film.
