Flyover work: BMC chief says expedite  rehabilitation of affected residents

BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani directed immediate rehabilitation of residents affected by the Andheri-Ghatkopar flyover project.He also ordered a temporary ban on heavy vehicles to accelerate construction and reduce congestion.

With work on the flyover along the Andheri Ghatkopar Link Road (AGLR) unfolding in the eastern suburbs, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner Thursday Bhushan Gagrani directed officials to rehabilitate eligible project-affected residents immediately.

The civic chief has also called for a temporary ban on heavy vehicles along the route to facilitate the works.
Seeking to relieve congestion on the existing route, the civic body along with the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MahaRail) has commenced works to construct a flyover on the AGLR railway line.

The bridge is slated to be constructed in two phases, and several residential and non-residential structures have been identified along the alignment of the flyover on both sides.

On Thursday, Gagrani inspected the ongoing construction works in the first phase.

During his inspection, the civic chief instructed that work on the bridge construction should be expedited along with the rehabilitation of the project affected persons (PAP).

“The rehabilitation work should be taken up on priority with the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA). Work on the bridge should be expedited by rehabilitating the affected people in a phased manner and various utility channels should also be shifted in a phased manner,” added Gagrani.

According to officials, once completed, the project will ease congestion by facilitating easier and faster commute on the route.
During his inspection, Gagrani instructed officials to ensure that the construction period of the bridge is not extended beyond the established timeline.

In a bid to boost construction pace, several directives have issued to cease movement of heavy vehicles on the route in coordination with the traffic police while alternative routes must be opened for citizens.
