Despite the hot start to December, weather officials say that temperatures have finally begun to drop in the city and may fall further in the next two days.

For a study of winter conditions, minimum temperatures are considered significant. These have been between one to four degrees above normal since the start of December, peaking at 24.7°C at Colaba and 22.7°C at Santacruz on the first day of the month. However, since then, the minimum temperature at Colaba has been sliding and in Santacruz,it has risen a little after an initial fall.

“The temperatures have only been one to two degrees above normal in the past two days. In fact, there has been a drop in temperatures as the winds are gradually settling into northerly or northeasterly,” said V K Rajeev, director,India Meteorological Department (IMD).
