Celebrate Bandra — the biennial festival that was once as quaint as the suburb in which it was born — is coming back for it’s fifth edition this year. Having grown significantly over the years, the festival, slated from November 12-27,plans on going beyond local talent and promises a panoramic experience of music, theatre, literature and sports.

“We have a band coming from Shillong and a graffiti artist flying in from Germany. This time, the festival is going beyond the boundaries of the suburb,” explains Neale Murray,Festival Director for Celebrate Bandra.

Music has always been one of the main attractions of the festival. This time,it will host performances by Shaan and Usha Uthup,in addition to alternative rock, folk and devotional music troupes. Theatre is also set to take centre stage. Out of a total of seven plays in the schedule, six will be performed by Motley,Naseeruddin Shah’s theatre group. With free admission to popular plays such as Manto

Ismat Hazir Hain and By George, the organisers are expecting a huge turnout. Other highlights include the wine festival at

D’Monte Park Recreational Ground,Children’s Stories with Rahul Bose at MCubed Library and a food festival featuring local specialities at Bandra Gym.“Only the musical shows at Bandra Amphitheatre and plays at HUL Park will be ticketed,” says Murray.
