CM Fadnavis orders to give essential project status to BDD chawl redevelopment and to complete Metro line 2B by March 2027

The construction of the 23.8 km Vadpe-Thane road is underway through the Maharashtra State Road Development Authority, of which 19 km has been completed and the entire road will be completed by March 2026

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in a review meeting on Monday said that the redevelopment project of BDD chawls should be given essential project status. The CM held the meeting for the review of the ongoing infrastructure development projects in Mumbai, Thane and Pune.

The CM directed that Mumbai Metro Line – 2B which will run from D.N. Nagar to Diamond Garden-Mandalay, should be completed by 31 March 2027, while the metro line from Swami Samarthangar to Vikhroli should be completed by 31 December 2026 for which the Urban Development Department should resolve the land related issues at Shyam Nagar station within the next15 days.

The work of Metro Line 3, Mann-Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar, through the Pune Metropolitan Area Development Authority, is instructed to be completed by March 31, 2026. Similarly, the BDD Chawl project in Naigaon has been instructed to be completed by June 2029 and the project in Worli by May 2029. Fadnavis has also instructed to declare the ‘BDD Chawl’ project as an essential project, instructing to complete the N.M. Joshi BDD Chawl project in Mumbai by June 2031.

Giving instructions to ensure that the Thane-Borivali double tunnel project, Uttan Virar Sea Link project, Orange Gate to Marine Drive urban tunnel project are completed on time with proper planning, Chief Minister Fadnavis said that the travel time will be reduced to 20 minutes due to the Airoli-Katai Naka Freeway project. He also directed that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority should immediately pay the amount for land acquisition for this.

At the same time, the work of Mumbai Pune Missing Link will be completed soon. The Chief Minister expressed his displeasure over the slow pace of work on the Bandra-Versova Sea Link project.
