Speaking to mediapersons, Patil said, “Fadnavis is a home minister but has no control over Thane district and city. (Express Photo) After former chief minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray slammed Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis over his alleged inefficiency in handling the department, Opposition NCP on Friday joined the chorus, saying that Fadnavis has no hold over the police in Thane and even an inspector takes orders only from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Speaking to mediapersons, Patil said, “Fadnavis is a home minister but has no control over Thane district and city. I challenge Fadnavis to transfer the current Thane police administration within the next 48 hours to prove his mettle. Only this will prove that the police are not under Shinde but the home minister.”
“The situation is such that if Fadnavis would call an inspector, even he would seek orders from Shinde. If we are wrong, then let Fadnavis show his power,” he added.
The Opposition has alleged that the law and order situation in Shinde’s home turf of Thane has been deteriorating and the police commissioner has no control over the hooliganism allegedly sponsored by Shinde’s supporters.
“Two days ago, a journalist was threatened by the workers of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. When Roshni Shinde shared it on social media, she was attacked by Shinde’s workers. This type of violence is unprecedented in Maharashtra,” said Patil.
Speaking on the alleged suicide of Vaibhav Kadam, who was once posted on the security duty of former state minister and NCP leader Jitendra Awhad, Patil said, “Nobody has gone in to the reasons why Kadam did this. He was being tortured and pressurised to give statement against our leader Jitendra Awhad. Kadam was threatened and officers made objectionable comments against his wife.”
“Nobody has probed into the reasons behind the death of Kadam as Thane Police was part of the conspiracy against Awhad,” he alleged, demanding a probe against the Thane Police and its commissioner.
