‘Baseless and unfounded’: Eknath Shinde’s son Shrikant Shinde says not in race to become Maharashtra deputy CM
Shrikant Shinde’s reaction to the speculation came even as the suspense over Maharashtra government formation lingers.

Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra caretaker chief minister Eknath Shinde’s son Shrikant Shinde Monday responded to speculations that he is in the race to become the state’s deputy chief minister and said he has “no desire for any position in the government”.
In a statement and a post on X, Shrikant Shinde, the Kalyan Lok Sabha MP, also said he does not want any ministerial position in the Maharashtra Cabinet. “The swearing-in ceremony of the Mahayuti government has been delayed, which has led to a surge in discussions and rumours. Hon’ble caretaker Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde had to take rest at his native place for two days due to health issues. As a result, the rumours have only intensified. There have been speculations about me becoming the deputy chief minister, but these news reports are baseless and unfounded,” Shrikant said.
“Even after the Lok Sabha elections, I had the opportunity to take up a ministerial position in the Central government. However, considering the work for the party organisation, I declined that offer. I have no desire for any position in the government. I am not a part of any race for a ministerial post in the state government, and I would like to clarify this once again. I will continue to work diligently for my Lok Sabha constituency and the Shiv Sena. I hope that the discussions surrounding me will come to an end now,” he said.
“We can understand the enthusiasm and competition of the media, but I request them not to turn their backs on reality while reporting the news. A modest hope that the discussions about me will at least stop now…”

Amid the stalemate over the government formation in Maharashtra, the BJP and the NCP want Eknath Shinde to become the Leader of Opposition if he does not want to become the deputy chief minister. Meanwhile, Eknath Shinde has indicated that he wants to stay out of power.
A Shinde Sena leader said no meeting of the three leaders of the Mahayuti is scheduled on Monday and the discussion on government formation and the portfolio distribution would be taken only after the legislative party meeting of the BJP.
Another Shinde Sena leader said the ball is in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s court. “We are not creating any hurdle or delaying the process. Everything has been clarified by Shinde ji in a press conference and now it is up to the BJP to decide its legislative leader and declare the name of CM. Whatever the discussion on the portfolio distribution will be, it will be decided during the meeting held by Devendra Fadnavis, Ajit Pawar, and Shinde ji. And for that there is still a time.,” said the leader.
“Within a party, people express their opinions about the portfolios and most of them are personal. The negotiations for several things will take place only during the meeting of the three leaders and then a final decision will be taken in a subsequent meeting with Amit Shah,” the leader added.
However, the Shinde Sena leader admitted that the party is insisting on its claim to the home ministry considering the earlier formula when Devendra Fadnavis was the deputy CM as well as in charge of the home portfolio.
