FOR children who love to scribble on worksheets through the class and indulge in abstract art on the desk, here’s a chance to earn name and fame by doing just that. On Children’s Day this year,Google’s Doodle4Google competition invites students in the age group of five to 16 years to conceptualise a doodle for the Google India homepage. The theme is ‘India’s gift to the world’.

The winner’s doodle will appear on Google.co.in on November 14 and the star doodler will receive a technology starter package, which includes a laptop,a year’s Internet connection and a Rs 2,00,000 technology grant for the school that he/she represents. “All one needs is a creative mind and minimal art supplies and whatever fascinates them,” says Nikhil Rungta,Country Marketing Head,Google India.

This will be the third edition of the contest. “When doodles were first created, nobody had anticipated how popular and integral they would become to the Google search experience. Today, users excitedly anticipate the release of each new doodle,” shares Rungta.

The Doodle4Google participants will be clubbed in three different categories — Class I-III,IV-VI and VII-X. The top 200 entries from each category will be reviewed by a panel of judges, which will then shortlist 15 finalists from each category. All the final entries will be exhibited for public voting. Dennis Hwang, the original Google Doodler, will then choose the winning doodle from the 45 finalists. To participate, one can register on http://www.google.co.in/doodle4google.
