A 56-year-old doctor committed suicide at his residence in Borivali (West) on Thursday night.
Police said Atul Gandhi, who ran Gandhi Nursing Home in Borivali (West),was being treated for a psychiatric disorder for the past seven years.
The accidental death occurred at 8.30 pm on the third floor of Moti Apartments in Manas-Moti Complex near St. Lawrence School in MHB Colony.
An officer at MHB Police Station said Gandhi and wife Darshini had gone to a relatives place for Ganpati visarjan on Thursday evening. While Darshini stayed back,Atul came home early.
Darshini returned home at 8.30 pm and rang the door bell but did not get any response. She then called on Atuls mobile but again did not get an answer, said inspector Subhash Vede.
Darshini then used a spare key to open the door, only to find her husband hanging by a rope used to dry clothes in the passage of their house.
There was no suicide note. Darshini told us Atul had a mental disorder. We suspect he committed suicide due to this, Vede said.
The couple have two children who are both medical students. While their son Abhishek studies in Ahmednagar, daughter Ushma is in Pune.
