A 24-year-old doctor was found dead in her hostel room on the Siddharth Hospital premises in Goregaon Thursday morning. While it appeared suicide, police said no note was found in the room because of which it was not clear yet as to why did she take the extreme step.
Mehzabeen Nasreen was a resident doctor living on the hostel’s fifth floor. At 10.20 am, when she did not report to work, other hostel residents checked on her and found her body hanging from the ceiling fan in her room. She was rushed to the hospital where she was declared dead upon arrival. The Goregaon police have registered a case of accidental death. An officer said no suicide note was found in Nasreen’s room. “We are investigating what led her to commit suicide…,” said the officer.
A medical officer from the hospital said the doctor had joined the hospital two months ago and was pursuing the College of Physicians and Surgeons course. “She was working in the department of obstetrics and gynaecology. Every one in her ward said she used to joke around and always laugh. There were no signs of depression,” said the medical officer.
