The state government in March 2020 released an advertisement for 217 Group A and Group B posts in the Public Works Department and Water Resources Department. Over 200 candidates who have cleared the Engineering Services Exams 2020 held by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) have started a three-day hunger strike at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan on Wednesday citing delay in getting appointment letters.
The candidates alleged that it has been eight months since their results were out and the government has yet not issued their appointment letter.
The state government in March 2020 released an advertisement for 217 Group A and Group B posts in the Public Works Department and Water Resources Department.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, their preliminary exam was delayed. It was finally conducted in March 2021 followed by the main exam in December 2022.
“Personal interviews were held in February 2022 and the results were out in August 2022. It has been eight months now since then and we continue to wait for appointment letters, whereas according to regulation candidates should be given appointment letters within three months from selection,” said Amol Jadhav, one of the protesting candidates.
These candidates have cleared the selection process held by the MPSC starting with the preliminary exam which had around 50,000 candidates appearing for it.
Additionally, after being selected, these candidates have also fulfilled other requirements such as document verification, medical report, character verification certificate among all.
Another protesting candidate said, “It raises concerns on why there is so much delay in appointments of only these two departments. After several of our complaints were unheard we had to begin the protest seeking resolution to our issue.”
