Daughter of IAS couple dies by suicide at Nariman Point; was depressed, say police
Lipi Rastogi, daughter of IAS officers Vikas Rastogi and Radhika Rastogi, killed herself around 4 am on Monday.

A 27-year-old daughter of an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) couple allegedly died by suicide by jumping from a high rise at Mumbai’s Nariman Point early Monday. Police have recovered a seven-page suicide note from her room that said no one should be blamed for her death.
Police said the deceased has been identified as Lipi Rastogi, daughter of Vikas Rastogi, principal secretary for higher and technical education, and senior IAS officer Radhika Rastogi.
According to police, she allegedly jumped from her 10th floor apartment at around 4 am when Lipi’s parents and her 19-year-old sister at the IAS officer’s government accommodation at Suniti, near Mantralaya, were asleep.
“The watchman, who heard the noise and found her injured, went and informed the family, after which she was rushed to GT Hospital, where she was declared dead before admission,” a police officer added.
Police said Lipi, who worked as a content writer and beauty consultant earlier, was pursuing an LLB degree from OP Jindal Global University at Sonipat in Haryana.
The investigators have revealed that she had not scored good marks in her examination due to which she was anxious over her performance in academics.
Lipi completed her BA from St Xavier’s College in Mumbai. As per her LinkedIn profile, Lipi also worked as a marketing professional with a background in handling luxe beauty brands. She was employed with Unilever and Nykaa. “I made the calculated decision to pivot my career into the law stream,” read her LinkedIn profile.
However, police said that she was suffering from depression and was under treatment.
“A counsellor was also appointed for her at Haryana who had recently written an email to her parents informing them that she is a severe case of depression and showed signs of suicidal tendency,” said an officer adding, “The father then visited her in Haryana and even met the counsellor there.”
Police added that in the note Lipi left behind, she mentioned about the last hug from her father and about how her mother helped her in getting admission in a dance class. She also requested the investigating officers to not harass her parents and that no one should be held responsible for her death.
“The suicide note is with the police. It appears that she has written the note over a period of time,” said an officer.
A postmortem was held and her body was handed over to the family by afternoon, following which the final rites were conducted.
The Cuffe Parade police have filed an accidental death report and are investigating to ascertain whether there is any foul play.
In 2017, the 18-year-old son of Maharashtra-cadre IAS officers Milind and Manisha Mhaiskar allegedly died by suicide in South Mumbai.
