(Source: File/ Representational)A 29-year-old woman died after the motorcycle, whose pillion she was riding, was hit by a water tanker on Tilak bridge in Dadar while on her way to work. Police registered a case against the tanker driver on Thursday.
According to the police, the complainant, Nilesh Thorat (35), an engineer working for an IT firm in Pune, lives in Lalbagh with his family and is currently working from home. He got engaged to the woman, identified as Sampada Pakhare, on October 26 and was to marry her on February 5 next year. Pakhare was staying in Vasai and worked as a probationary officer at the Bank of Maharashtra’s Dadar (west) branch.
According to the complaint, Thorat and Pakhare went to Shri Swami Samarth Temple in Akkalkot on November 30 and they returned to Thorat’s house. On the morning of December 2, Thorat was going to drop Pakhare to office when a water tanker hit the motorcycle the couple was travelling on, on Tilak bridge in Dadar. The impact of the accident was such that the couple fell on the road and Pakhare lost consciousness after sustaining severe head injury.
Police said Thorat too suffered injuries on his face and legs. The traffic police, with the help of locals, rushed the couple to Hinduja hospital, where Pakhare was declared dead during treatment. As Thorat was under tremendous shock, police could not record his statement.
