Court allows Varavara Rao to travel to Hyderabad for cataract surgery
Rao sought permission from the court to travel to Hyderabad as his bail conditions restrict him from leaving Mumbai without court nod.

A special court in Mumbai on Wednesday allowed 82-year-old Telugu poet Varavara Rao, an accused in the Elgaar Parishad case, to travel to Hyderabad for his cataract surgery.
Rao sought permission from the court to travel to Hyderabad as his bail conditions restrict him from leaving Mumbai without court nod.
Special Judge jajesh Katariya allowed Rao to travel to Hyderabad from December 5 to December 11 to undergo cataract surgery on his left eye at a hospital there. The court set conditions that before leaving, Rao will have to report to the NIA in Mumbai and provide details on his travel and place of residence in Hyderabad.
Rao, who was arrested by the Pune police in 2018, was granted bail by the Supreme Court in August 2022 on medical grounds. Earlier this year, Rao approached the court seeking permission to undergo surgery in Hyderabad stating that it would be free of cost for him there.
The special court had rejected his plea following which he approached the Bombay High Court. The high court in October permitted him to travel to Hyderabad for a week for surgery on his right eye and directed him to approach the special court for the remaining surgery.
