Police have prepared three teams to trace a 19-year-old youth who allegedly attacked a domestic help and stole cash and jewellery from an apartment in Ashok Nagar Complex in Sakinaka Friday evening. Cops are are also on the lookout for a gang that poses as milkmen or delivery men and commits robberies in the western suburbs.
At 5.10 pm Friday, the accused rang the doorbell of the first-floor apartment at Manavsthal building. Domestic help Sitara Malla, who was alone in the house, asked who it was,the teen told her that he had come to deliver chicken. Malla called up her employer Mitash Bose, who told she had placed no such order. Malla then sent the accused back, following which he returned with an iron rod.
When Malla opened the door this time,he attacked her and dragged her to the bedroom. Malla pretended to faint, after which the accused stole the valuables and fled. Malla then raised an alarm.
We have seized CCTV footage from building,in which a man can be seen entering premises and exiting after 30 minutes with a bag. However, recording is not clear, said an officer. The footage is hazy due to heavy rain on Friday. We have, however, sent it for forensic analysis. We are also questioning the security guards, who had not maintained any log of the people entering the building, he added.
Police from West Region have been asked to hold meetings with the housing societies about suspicious people entering buildings.
