Cops foil kidnap bid,arrest 5

Five people,including a woman,were arrested on Friday for allegedly kidnapping the son of a manufacturing unit owner from Vile Parle (East),police said. The accused were caught in Jogeshwari,an hour after the kidnap.

Police said the victim,10-year-old Shivam Kadam,lived with his parents in Hema Padma Apartments on Paranjape Road. At 2.30 pm,prime accused Seema Dhadvey (21),a domestic help employed with the family,allegedly took the boy outside the house on the pretext of getting his bicycles tyre repaired. She then allegedly pushed Shubham into a Mahindra Xylo outside the building.

Police said as the vehicle sped away,Seema screamed for help. Three passersby on bikes chased after the car and the Kadam family called the cops. The accused allegedly made a ransom call of Rs 1 crore to Shivams father Sachin. Police set up barricades in the direction of Jogeshwari,where the accused were headed.

The car was spotted on JVLR in Jogeshwari (East) by officers of Meghwadi police station. On seeing a nakabandi,the kidnappers panicked and released Shivam. The two men inside,Satyajeet alias Robert Balkrishna (33) and Bhagesh Balan (29),were arrested, said Shashikant Talegaonkar,senior inspector,Vile Parle police station.

During interrogation,the men revealed that the kidnapping had been planned by Seema and three others,Milind alias Laxman Chandrakant Waradkar (35),Prem Gupta and Rohit Divekar (21). Police arrested Seema,Gupta and Waradkar. Divekar is absconding.

3 convicted in fake currency case

A SESSIONS court Friday convicted three persons and sentenced them to 10 years rigorous punishment for possessing counterfeit notes with face value of Rs 3.8 lakh. The three have been fined Rs 20,000 each. The case dates back to 2011,when police apprehended two accused Nafis Alam Shaikh (25) and Sadidul Haque (27) from their Ghatkopar residences. On searching their houses,police had found two bundles of counterfeit notes of Rs 500 denomination.
