Following the defeat in three states, questions have been raised on the stability of the state unit of the party. (Express Photo)After the drubbing it received in the Assembly elections in three states, the Maharashtra unit of the Congress has denied speculation that some of the party’s senior leaders from the state are looking at abandoning the party.
“As an opposition, we stand firm and strong. We have not deviated from our original task of taking on the BJP. There is no truth in any speculation about the split in the Maharashtra unit,” said senior party MLA and Congress legislative party leader Balasaheb Thorat.
Following the defeat in three states, questions have been raised on the stability of the state unit of the party, faced with infighting and reported displeasure over the leadership of party state unit chief Nana Patole.
“The winter session is approaching and it is obvious that certain powers do not want to see unity of the opposition. This is resulting in such speculations about the party,” said Thorat.
Meanwhile, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) leader Prakash Ambedkar on Monday slammed the Congress saying it needs to connect itself to ground realities.
Addressing a press conference, Ambedkar said, “Congress forgot the lesson from the Karnataka victory and paid the price for it in three states. It needs to connect itself to ground realities.”
When asked whether he would join the INDIA alliance, Ambedkar said there is no such proposal to him as of now. “We know that they will not take us, but we have told them that we are ready to join,” he said.
