Cong,BJP supporters clash near BJP office

There was a clash between supporters of the Congress and BJP-Shiv Sena on Thursday soon after election results for the Bandra West constituency were declared.

There was a clash between supporters of the Congress and BJP-Shiv Sena on Thursday soon after election results for the Bandra West constituency were declared. The incident took place on Hill Road 50 metres from the Bandra police station. The police have registered a case of rioting against supporters of both the parties. However no arrests have been made till now.

As per the witnesses,at around 1.15 pm,the supporters of victorious Congress candidate Baba Siddique came to the area on motorcycles with party flags. They shouted victory slogans near the BJP office in the area. The supporters of the two parties threw stones and glass bottles at each other.

Additional Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta said,“The incident hardly lasted 10-15 minutes as police forces reached the spot and immediately took control of the situation. The police have registered a case of rioting against both the parties but no arrests have been made so far.”

In the ensuing riot two BEST buses and a few private cars were damaged. Two persons suffered minor injuries and shops were shut. The situation was tense till late evening and to avoid more incidents police was deployed in the area,Gupta said.
