A 20-year-old girl was stabbed by two motorcycle-borne assailants near SNDT College in Malad on Saturday. The girl was stabbed while she was on her way to college around 7 am on Saturday.
Police officers said Shashi Tiwari,a student, was on her way to SNDT College when two bike-borne assailants rode past her and stabbed her. She was stabbed in her back by the two assailants. She was bleeding profusely. The incident took place near her college. She was rushed by the staff of her college to Suchak Hospital, said an officer from the Malad police station.
The swift response of the college staff saved the girl blood loss, said police officers. Had there been any delay in rushing the victim to hospital, there could have been complications. She got stitches on the back and her condition is now stable, said the officer.
While initially reports suggested this may have been a case of chain-snatching,officers now said the motive may have been personal.
Tiwari was not robbed of anything. The two men fled the scene after stabbing her. It seems the assailants knew the victim. We are probing that angle and have not ruled out any possibility yet. We have taken the statement of the victim and are investigating the matter, the officer said.
The police have registered an FIR against unknown persons in the case.
