FIR against NCP activists for dumping garbage outside TMC gates
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Jitendra Avhads had allegedly dumped garbage in front of the Thane Municipal Corporation headquarters in protest against the civic bodys inability to shut down the Mulund dumping ground. But his name does not figure in the FIR lodged by the Thane Municipal Corporation on Sunday. Sources in civic head office said that Avhad was deliberately not mentioned to deprive the leader of publicity he was seeking.
Twenty-five people, including NCP activists Hemant Wani and Amit Sariya have been booked under various sections of the IPC for hijacking a civic vehicle and other unlawful activities. We booked those NCP activists who were involved in this shameful incident, said Thane mayor Smita Indulkar. She refused to comment on why Avhads name was not included in the FIR.
According to the FIR,a dumper full of garbage was forcibly diverted to the BMC headquarters opposite Azad Maidan and the garbage was dumped outside the gates. The case was lodged at Wagle Estate police station as the truck was hijacked from Wagle Estate. The official driver and other staff of the vehicle were thrown out and the dumper was driven by an NCP activist.
In a similar incident in February 2009,Avhad had targeted the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation head office at Fort. He was subsequently arrested and refused bail. Though he spent a night in jail,he obtained bail and walked out the other day claiming he had gone to the prison for a great cause.
