The Bombay High Court may soon appoint six new judges.

Tahaliyani,Thipsay in reckoning for HC

The Bombay High Court may soon appoint six new judges. Sources confirmed on Sunday that this round of appointments may include principal judge of the city civil and sessions court M L Tahaliyani,who heard the 26/11 trial handing out the death sentence to Mohammed Ajmal Kasab,and Jalgaon district judge Abhay Thipsay,who heard the Best Bakery case while posted in Mumbai in 2006. The other names include the registrar general of the Bombay High Court M N Gilani,principal judge of Pune sessions court M V Joshi and Aurangabad District Judge T N Nalawade. The only appointment to be made from the High Court Bar is that of advocate Girish Godbole. The Bombay High Court has a sanctioned strength of 75 judges and the appointments will raise the number of judges from 55 to 61. The appointments are likely to be announced officially in the coming week.

Youth hurt as part of KEM quarters collapses

One person was injured on Sunday morning when a portion of the KEM Hospital’s Class IV employees’ residential quarters collapsed. Sandeep Megavati (20) was sleeping in his house when the plaster of the roof came crashing down. Megavati has been operated for injuries on his leg,said a civic official. According to a ward official,the single storey residential quarters is in a dilapidated state with no repair work being done for past many years.
