The Bombay High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by writer Pandurang Balkawade challenging the order of a Pune civil court allowing the government to be a party in civil proceedings before the court challenging the removal of the statue of Dadoji Konddev,the teacher of Chhatrapati Shivaji,from Pune Raj Mahal.

HC quashes plea on Konddev statue

The Bombay High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by writer Pandurang Balkawade challenging the order of a Pune civil court allowing the government to be a party in civil proceedings before the court challenging the removal of the statue of Dadoji Konddev,the teacher of Chhatrapati Shivaji,from Pune Raj Mahal. Balkawade had stated in his petition that the Pune Municipal Corporation had in a ‘high-handed’ manner uplifted the statue of the Konddev without there being any agenda for the same. The petition had also sought the restoration of the statue.

Shrines should not be built on streets: HC

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday observed that irrespective of religions,shrines should not be built on the streets. The court was hearing a petition filed by the Bombay Catholic Sabha (BCS) against the BMC’s decision to demolish unauthorised religious shrines built after September 29,2010.
