Citizens’ groups,NGOs chalk out action plan for elections

“On December 3 there were lakhs of people at the Gateway of India speaking vociferously against a common system failure. These voices,however,depicted diverse ideas and ideologies. Since unity is needed for any concrete work,we thought of uniting various groups for a sane,committed and compassionate democracy,” said Convenor and Founder,Rahul Bose.

Since elections are high on the list of every citizens’ group,the GOG too has come up with action plan. Transparency,accountability and participative democracy are the underlying themes for the GoG. “We will monitor all parties and put pressure on them to declare the source of all funds. We will also look at their moral record. Parties indulging in hate politics will be pressurised. Besides,we will ensure that citizens do their duty by registering and voting,” said Teesta Setalvad,secretary of Citizens for Justice and Peace and head of the anti-corruption sub-group.

“We will help campaigns and programmes for citizens. Review every project in every constituency and ward to ensure that people’s interests are protected and voices are heard,” said Bose. The ward activation sub-group will be holding direct meetings with the chosen elected representatives from next month.

“We we will be conducting public meetings and debates across ALMs from April 18 to 25,” said head of Administration,GOG,Sushama Reddy.
