CID arrests NCP MLA Ramesh Kadam in corruption case
After his arrest, Kadam, who is MLA from Mohol in Solapur, was taken to Mumbai, where a court sent him to police custody till August 25.

The state’s criminal investigation department (CID) on Monday arrested NCP MLA Ramesh Kadam, who had been on the run for nearly a month after being accused of misappropriating funds from a corporation which provides financing to members of the Other Backward Class community.
After his arrest, Kadam, who is MLA from Mohol in Solapur, was taken to Mumbai, where a court sent him to police custody till August 25. Arguing against his police custody, Kadam’s lawyer told the court that the CID had no jurisdiction to make arrests under the Prevention of Corruption Act and that the case fell in the purview of state’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
Kadam has been accused of misappropriating Rs 132 crore from the funds of Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Magasvargiya Vikas Mahamandal, which he headed as chairman. A case in this regard was registered at Dahisar police station in Mumbai on July 18.

The matter was raised in the Maharashtra Assembly, where a motion was moved against him, claiming that Rs 61.74 crore was given to one single weaving mill from Paithan, Rs 30 crore to one Maitrey Sugar Association and Rs 59 crore to one Joshaba Madhyawarti Grahak Sahakari Sanstha in Borivli. Kadam is also accused of providing 57 cars bought with Corporation’s funds to his friends and colleagues.
While Kadam was on the run, the CID had arrested his relatives Nakusha Govind Kadam from Pune and Lakshmi Mahadu Lokhande from Solapur. Police said the duo were alleged beneficiaries while Kadam was the kingpin of the scam.
According to sources, a team of CID and Yerwada police nabbed Kadam at Hyatt Regency hotel on the Pune-Ahmednagar road around 2 am Monday.
Anant Shinde, special inspector general of police (CID), confirmed that Kadam was arrested from Hyatt Regency.
Earlier, on July 5, Kadam was arrested while taking out a morcha in Solapur which turned violent. After his arrest, Kadam was remanded to magisterial custody for about 10 days.
