Around 355 inmates of the Dongri Children’s Home have been busy over the past few days making idols from paper and water-based colours. These idols were displayed in an exhibition on Sunday. Superintendent of the home,SA Jadhav, said,“The children have made about 100 idols entirely from environment friendly materials. They have used paper to make both the idols and pedestals to keep them.”

He added the exhibition will also be held on Monday and they may sell the idols. “We are planning to sell the idols. However,we have not taken any concrete decision yet. The children have been working hard for the past one month to prepare these idols and have done a very good job,” Jadhav said. Calling the idol-making a recreational activity,Jadhav said,“The children here are in the age group of 4-18. Most of them are runaways, missing persons, those who have committed an offence and some are here for safe keeping. Their energy needs to be channelised. This activity got their creative streak out.”
