Impressive half-centuries from Pratik Manjrekar and Yash Chauhan helped city heavyweights Rizvi Springfield beat KDMA from Kanpur by four wickets at Hindu Gymkhana in the Coca-Cola U-16 Cricket Tournament on Wednesday.

It could have been a lot different when KDMA won the toss and elected to bat. But the visitors failed to make best use of a the wicket, getting bowled out for a paltry 204,and failing to last their full quota of 50 overs.

Ayush Atri, who top-scored for the Kanpur outfit with 50,and Aman Yadav with 39 did put up some resistance against Rizvi’s disciplined bowling. But it wasn’t good enough with Alpesh Ramjani starring for the home team with the ball, ending up with figures of 4/36.

The target hardly proved a challenge for the strong Rizvi batting line-up as they raced towards their target with over six overs to spare. Manjrekar led the way with a 71-ball 63,a knock which included seven hits to the fence and one over it. Chauhan was compartively more subdued in his approach but still played a crucial part with 60 off 90 balls during which he actually cleared the fence on a couple of occasions. He even won the man-of-the-match award for his efforts.
