Census begins today; VVIPs to be counted first

Five VVIP families will be the first to be counted in the massive census exercise that will kick start in the city on Saturday.

Five VVIP families will be the first to be counted in the massive census exercise that will kick start in the city on Saturday. Enumerators will visit the residences of Governor K Sankaranarayanan,Chief Minister Ashok Chavan,Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal,Mayor Shradhdha Jadhav and Deputy Mayor Shailaja Girkar on Saturday morning.

As many as 27,358 enumerators and 4,651 supervisors will survey over 41 lakhs households from May 1 to June 15. Of the total 32,009 census officials,around 15,000 are BMC officials. Additional municipal commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar urged citizens to provide correct information. “Providing incorrect info will invite a three-year imprisonment under the National Census Act of 1948,” said Mhaiskar.
