A close study of over 308 hours of CCTV footage obtained from two of the three spots where bombs exploded in Mumbai on July 13 last year has established the presence of bomb planters at the spot at least five hours prior to the blast, according to the by the Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) which filed the chargesheet in the case on Friday.

CCTV footage from camera number 6 and 7 at Opera House, one of the spots where a bomb exploded, corroboratedcorraborated with statements of over 14 “star witnesses”,established that two wanted accused,Danish alias Aadil alias Tabrez and Wakas Ibrahim Saad alias Wakas Ibrahim Shaikh, were first spotted at Opera House at 13.43 hours on July 13 hours before the blast, the investigators said.

The footage shows how a person identified as Tabrez reached the spot on a maroon motorbike wearing a green, striped shirt and parked it. Tabrez was identified by independent witnesses including the landlord, who had leased out a house at Habib Manzil to some suspects in Byculla a few months before the blast.

As seen on CCTV footage,Tabrez reached the spot first and later coordinated with Wakas who reached there at 18.03 hours, said the investigators. According to the recording,Wakas is seen walking towards Tata Road No 1 carrying a white polythene bag, believed to have contained an IED.

Wakas, too, has been identified by the landlord. Two others,a doctor and a clerk at a clinic where Wakas had undergone eye surgery on October 6 last year identified,on oath,Wakas on the CCTV footage, said the investigators.

Wakas and Tabrez, whose nationality has not been ascertained in the chargesheet, are believed to be from Pakistan.

Wakas had allegedly taken a crash course in mobile repair when he lived in Byculla, claims another witness, who, too, has identified him according to the chargesheet.

While the agency has built up a strong link with the footage from Zaveri Bazaar and Opera House, the chargesheet is silent on evidence gathered from Antonio D’Silva school at the Dadar blast site.

The chargesheet just mentioned two witness statements, which vaguely point fingers at absconding accused Shaikh Mohammad Tahsin Akhtar alias Wasim Akhtar alias Tahseen as a possible bomber.

Two witness statements have been recorded identifying Tahsin as one of the persons who met Kafeel Ansari,an arrested accused, but he is yet to be chargesheeted in the case.

According to the statements,Ansari who lived in the same area as the witness in Mumbai, had invited Tahsin once to his residence. Tahsin,a 23-year-old from Samastipur in Bihar,is still at large.
