Car-jacking in Matunga,hunt on for 4 suspects

A Toyota Innova belonging to a businessman was allegedly carjacked at gunpoint in broad daylight in Matunga Thursday. Police have registered a complaint againstfour unidentified persons and have launched a search for the suspects.

Matunga police said the incident took place around 4.15 pm on Telang Road in Matunga. Rajban Yadav (35),a driver,was waiting near a college in the area in his employer’s Toyota Innova,while his employer,Nimesh Dedhia,was attending to some business at an associate’s office nearby. Four men allegedly walked up to the car and one of them stuck a gun inside the driver’s side window,putting it to Yadav’s head.

“The four men got into the car while the man armed with the gun — a country-made pistol — warned him against raising an alarm. He told Yadav to drive,” said an officer.

“The four suspects made Yadav drive up to Suman Nagar junction in Chembur,where he was told to get out of the vehicle. One of the suspects then took the wheel and they drove off. Yadav contacted Dedhia and told him about the incident,” said inspector Shashikant Londhe.

Dedhia and Yadav went to Matunga police station and lodged a complaint.

Police have sent out a wireless alert with the description and licence plate number of the stolen Innova. Investigations are also under way into the possibility of insider involvement in the case and police are looking for eyewitnesses. The suspects had not covered their faces and sketches were being prepared on the basis of descriptions provided by Yadav,sources said.
