A day after the death of a nine-year-old boy whose head hit a hoarding as he peeped out of a schoolbus, workers of Shiv Senas students wing Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Sena (BVS) on Thursday created a ruckus at the school. Five BVS workers have been arrested.
Viraj Parmar,a student of Shree Vallabh Ashram English Medium School at Sion, had stuck his head out of the bus window to wave goodbye to a friend. When the bus started moving, his head hit a hoarding, causing his death.
The school authorities have now decided to terminate the contract of the schoolbus. This is the first time that any such incident has occurred. However, keeping in mind the safety of our students we will terminate the present contract, said principal Rosy Singh. The school remained closed on Thursday to mourn the death.
However, the incident has raised questions about safety measures maintained by the school. Krishna Nelge,an activist of Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Sena, said,The rods on the windows of the bus were stretched and bent, due to which the kid could stick his head out. The school is equally responsible for this mishap,as they should have checked the bus from time to time,so we protested in our style.
Virajs father Devendra Parmar, said, I dont know who is responsible for my sons death. The truth is I have lost my son and I want justice.
The school is not at fault as we had communicated all safety norms to the bus owners and the driver. The school is not at fault if they did not follow it.
DCP (Zone IV) Keshav Patil said,We are investigating and trying to find out what norms were flouted and by whom. We will also charge the school management if there are any lapses from their side. We have arrested the driver and the cleaner of the bus.
