Bribery: Sena corporator arrested

Officials of the Anti Corruption Bureau on Thursday arrested a Shiv Sena corporator from Girgaum for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from an interior decorator.

Officials of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested a Shiv Sena corporator from Girgaum for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from an interior decorator.

 According to ACB officials,Pramod Kanade,the complainant in the case, was on a contract to design an ATM for the Sahyadri Sahkari Bank in Fanaswadi area of Girgaum.

 In the complaint,Kanade claimed that as per the contract,he began his work for the ATM last month. However,on July 31,the civic authorities demolished a portion of the wall built inside the ATM,claiming it was illegal.

  Following the dispute with the civic authorities, Kanade approached Shiv Sena corporator Vishakha Pednekar for help who allegedly demanded Rs 25,000 for settling the matter.

  “After consulting bank officials,Kanade approached the ACB with his complaint following which a trap was laid at the corporator’s home. The Sena leader was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe by a team of police officials dressed in civilian clothes,” said an official from the Anti Corruption Bureau.
