The Bhayandar police arrested a youth on Wednesday for the kidnap and murder of an eight-year-old boy of Pali Bunder locality in Bhayandar west.

The Bhayandar police arrested a youth on Wednesday for the kidnap and murder of an eight-year-old boy of Pali Bunder locality in Bhayandar west. Police claimed that Typhon Kavlighar (25) kidnapped Soheb Shaikh on Saturday evening. His body was found at Gorai beach on Wednesday morning.

Senior Police Inspector Amarsingh Nimbalkar from the Bhayandar police said,“On Saturday evening,Kavlighar had taken Shaikh from near his residence and asked Shaikh to accompany him. When Shaikh did not return home till late in the night, his family filed a missing person’s complaint with the police. On investigation we came to know that Shaikh was last seen with Kavlighar.” The police apprehended Kavlighar on Monday.

During the interrogation he allegedly confessed to having kidnapped Shaikh and told the investigators that he had killed Shaikh and stowed his body on an abandoned boat in Gorai beach.

“However, when we searched the place,we did not find anybody. On Wednesday morning, some locals found Shaikh’s body on Gorai beach and informed us about it. His body has been sent for post mortem and we have arrested Kavlighar for kidnap and murder,” said Nimbalkar.

On the motive behind the murder,Nimbalkar said that on Saturday morning Kavlighar had requested Shaikh to deliver a letter to a girl Seema (name changed on request),a resident of the same locality.

When Seema asked Shaikh as to who had told him to deliver the letter, that allegedly contained obscene content,Shaikh ran away. Police suspect that Kavlighar might have killed Shaikh fearing that he would name him.

“We do not know why Kavlighar sent the letter to Seema as there does not seem to be any connection between the two. We might conduct a narco-analysis test on Kavlighar to find out the motive behind the letter,” said Nimbalkar.

“We feel that in order to prevent himself from being identified as the writer of the letter,Kavlighar must have killed Soheb,” said Sabira Shaikh,Soheb’s aunt.
