It was in September last year that Yash Raj Film Studios and Karol Bagh Saree House (KBSH) joined hands to launch Diva’ni, India’s first fashion brand influenced by Bollywood. This was followed by the opening of the first store in Delhi in November.

Last week saw Diva’ni open doors in Mumbai with its spring-summer collection, designed by Delhi-based designers Parinita Saluja and Anjali Dongre. The collection offers scarves and saris in multiple hues. The saris, in georgette, make for a flashy sight, primarily due to the striking colour palette.

Bridal couture is also at its flamboyant best with lehengas and anarkalis in hues of red, green and gold. While the bridal collection starts at Rs 2 lakh, Diva’ni’s pret collection, priced between Rs 5,000 and Rs 40,000, comprises pleated shorts, georgette shirts, bomber jackets and palazzos with kitschy motifs like glasses and bird cages. An interesting addition is the hand-woven sari collection. Sanya Dhir, co-owner and brand head of Diva’ni, says, “We are trying to revive age-old techniques of production like hand-weaving and hand-painting.”
