According to the civic body, the affected persons were provided with financial compensation or rehabilitation.
Eyeing to ease traffic congestion along the busy S V Road in P/South, the civic body has proposed a project to widen the road. However, only 12 metres of the 27.45-metre wide swath was available for traffic, owing to the presence of 14 structures along the pathway.
According to officials, these sites have been in existence since at least 1960. To make way for the widening, the civic body had issued eviction notices to 14 structures.
On Monday, ward staff visited the site and launched the eviction drive. “With the removal of these 14 structures, nearly 500 metres of road was cleared for traffic. These encompass Ashish building, Anant Niwas, the Adani electricity power substation. As per BMC’s rehabilitation policy, the affected persons have been provided with either financial compensation or alternative rehabilitation,” said a civic bulletin.
