AFTER submitting its revised draft Development Plan 2034, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has been approached by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to help them revise their Development Plan. After the BMC’s urban planners conducted a meeting with PCMC officials last month, the civic body is in the process of preparing a cost estimate for the entire project which will amount to around Rs 6 crore.
Civic officials from the Development Plan department said that around three months ago, the administration decided to set up an institute in the city for staff members of other urban local bodies where classes will be held on various aspects of a municipal corporation. The BMC had then written to the Urban Development Department informing them that they would be willing to offer assistance to any other smaller municipal corporation in the state that needed help with the drafting of their DP.
Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta said that they have agreed to the PCMC’s proposal and the Finance Department is now in the process of preparing an estimate for the project. “The DP 2034 which was drafted by our internal DP team was made keeping the ground realities in mind and we now have a wealth of experience. We will send PCMC the estimate once it is ready and the final decision can then be taken,” he said.
Stating that the involvement of BMC is still under consideration, PCMC chief Shravan Hardikar said that they have already floated a tender for private consultants and are yet to take a decision in the matter. “The tendering process to hire private agencies that can help with the drafting of the revised DP is underway. We have the technical knowledge but it would better to have the assistance of BMC. We are seriously considering their offer,” he said.
