Vikhroli,Ghatkopar top list with 43 areas
The civic administration has listed 156 landslide spots this monsoon,with the highest number in the suburbs of Vikhroli and Ghatkopar. The number of landslide-prone spots listed last year was 128.
While N Ward (Vikhroli and Ghatkopar) has 43 landslide-prone areas,S Ward,including Bhandup and Kanjurmarg,have 26 such areas as per the data compiled by the disaster management cell of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) .
The data shows that the number of dilapidated buildings has gone up substantially,from 876 last year to 1,054.
While the highest number of dilapidated buildings have been found in L Ward (Kurla,94 structures) followed by E ward (Byculla,90 structures). A ward (fort) has 79 dilapidated structures and P South (Goregaon) has 61 dilapidated structures. The indication to shift to alternative accommodation has already been an issue in case of landslide-prone areas and also dilapidated buildings, said Mahesh Narvekar,chief officer,disaster management cell.
In the island city,the most vulnerable areas are from Bhuleshwar to Byculla,the D and E wards.
The two wards together have 23 chronic flooding spots,17 landslide-prone areas,133 dilapidated buildings,and 20 settlements perilously close to the sea.
The BMC has listed the highest flooding spots in suburbs in R Central ( Boriwali west,21 spots),followed by P South (Goregaon west,19 spots).
The chronic flooding spots in South Mumbai include Colaba Market,Backbay bus depot,Nana Chowk in Grant Road,Petit Hall in Napeansea Road and Breach Candy Hospital at Bhulabhai Desai Road.
