BJP names Dhairyasheel Patil as candidate for RS seat
Dhairyasheel Patil, who was with Peasant and Workers Party of India (PWPI), had joined BJP in February 2023.

The BJP on Tuesday named its Raigad district president Dhairyasheel Patil as the Rajya Sabha candidate from Maharashtra.
Dhairyasheel Patil, who was with Peasant and Workers Party of India (PWPI), had joined BJP in February 2023.
The candidature of Patil was announced after the BJP’s central committee gave its approval.
Known as a farmers’ leader, he had won the Assembly elections from Pen constituency in 2009 and 2014 as the PWPI candidate. However, in 2019 Assembly polls, Patil lost the seat to BJP’s Ravisheth Patil.
As Patil joined the BJP before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the party was hopeful of winning Raigad, where the undivided NCP and PWPI had strong presence. In the Lok Sabha polls, BJP had to concede the Raigad constituency to sitting NCP MP and senior leader Sunil Tatkare.
The BJP’s decision to name Dhiaryasheel Patil as Rajya Sabha candidate was taken in the wake of upcoming Assembly polls, where it cannot antagonise its sitting MLA Ravisheth Patil by denying a seat. The former Congress member had joined the BJP ahead of the 2019 Assembly polls.
At present there are two vacancies in Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra. Union Minister Piyush Goyal who was elected to Rajya Sabha had contested and won from Lok Sabha polls from Mumbai North this year.
Another senior BJP leader Udyan Raje Bhosale, who was the Rajya Sabha MP, had also contested and won from Satara Lok Sabha seat.
With BJP retaining one seat, second one is likely to go to its ally NCP.
