BJP on Wednesday announced Navneet Rana as its candidate for Amravati Lok Sabha seat in Western Vidarbha region.

Amravati seat was caught in an ugly power tussle between BJP and Shinde Sena, which was keen on contesting the seat. The latter’s argument was, in 2014 and 2019 the seat division saw BJP conceding Amravati to Shiv Sena. So, rightfully, it should get the seat. Last week, senior Shinde Sena leader and former MP Anandrao Adsul opposed Navneet’s candidature from Amravati. He wanted the ticket for himself.
Navneet’s husband MLA Ravi Rane won as an independent from Badnera Assembly constituency in 2019. He too has pledged support to BJP.
The Rana couple had courted controversy over recitation of Hanuman Chalisa in 2022. Navneet had announced she would recite Hanuman Chalisa outside Matoshree, the residence of then CM Uddhav Thackeray. This led to a strong counter from undivided Sena. Police served notice to Navneet. She was arrested and later released.
