BJP defends Chhagan Bhujbal as Shinde-Sena attacks him over OBC reservation stand
Chandrashekhar Bawankule said it was wrong to slam Bhujbal for he had not said anything wrong. "Everybody including OBCs are in favour of Maratha reservation, but they should get a separate quota. The existing OBC reservation should not be touched," he explained.

The state BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Tuesday defended NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) minister Chhagan Bhujbal on his stand over the Marathas issue and OBC reservation.
Bawankule said, “Bhujbals views on reservation is the stated position taken by all political parties. At the all party meeting last month, Bawankule had said that there was a unanimous view that Marathas should get separate reservation, and the OBC reservation should remain intact, as it is. From what I understand the minister for food and civil supplies Bhujbal has reiterated the same.”
Bawankule’s strong defence in favour of Bhujbal comes on a day when Shinde-Sena minister Sambhuraje Desai slammed the OBC leader for his public statements on reservation.
On Monday, Bhujbal during his visit to Beed district in Marathwada had expressed disappointment over issuance of Kunbi certificates to all Marathas. Amidst growing assertion from Marathas, Bhujbal gave a clarion call to OBC leaders and organisations to unite and fight for their rights. The inclusion of Marathas in OBC will be strongly opposed via agitations on streets, he has warned.
Shinde- Sena perceived Bhujbal’s assertion as unwarranted, fearing it would invite backlash from Marathas, specially at at a time when CM Eknath Shinde was keen on resolving the reservation issue by conceding to Maratha activist Manoj Jarange Patil’s demands within next two months.
Bawankule said it was wrong to slam Bhujbal for he had not said anything wrong. “Everybody including OBCs are in favour of Maratha reservation, but they should get a separate quota. The existing OBC reservation should not be touched,” he explained.
“At the cabinet meeting, the government has made its stand clear. It supports Maratha reservation. It has maintained while doing so OBCs quota will remain intact,” Bawankule said.
