BJP Beed chief Mhaske, close aide of Pankaja Munde, joins NCP (SP)

Ahead of the Assembly elections, BJP’s Beed district chief Rajendra Mhaske Wednesday joined the NCP (SP) led by Sharad Pawar in Mumbai.

When Pankaja Munde was the BJP candidate in Beed for the Lok Sabha elections, Mhaske, who hails from Maratha community, was in forefront for campaigning, trying to placate Maratha anger against BJP, following Manoj Jarange Patil’s agitation.

Pawar is likely to give Mhaske responsibility of Beed district. Before the NCP split, minister Dhananjay Munde was the party’s face in Beed district.

After the split, Dhananjay Munde switched to the NCP faction led by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar.

In the Lok Sabha polls, NCP ( SP)’s Bajrang Sonwane won from Beed defeating Pankaja Munde by a narrow margin of 6,000 votes.

Mhaske’s decision comes on the day when Nilesh Rane, son of BJP MP Narayan Rane, joined the Shiv Sena led by CM Eknath Shinde.

On Tuesday, BJP’s Navi Mumbai chief Sandeep Naik had quit the party to join NCP ( SP). He was upset after being denied ticket from Belapur where party fielded sitting MLA Manda Mhatre.

However, Ganesh Naik who is Sandeep’s father, will contest as BJP candidate from Airoli seat.

Earlier, another BJP leader Harshvardhan Patil had quit the party to join the Sharad Pawar-led party. He will contest from Indapur seat.
