Birla Masters badminton

The 20th GD Birla Memorial Masters Inter Club badminton tournament,will be organized by Badminton 45 from February 29 to March 4 at the Bombay Gymkhana.

The 20th GD Birla Memorial Masters Inter Club badminton tournament,will be organized by Badminton 45 from February 29 to March 4 at the Bombay Gymkhana. On the occasion,cash awards will be presented to India’s senior national men’s and women’s champions,junior national (under-19) boys’ and girls’ champions and Mumbai’s MSSA inter school boys and girls champions. The tournament includes the Masters Inter Club team championship,Open singles and doubles and Professional singles,a category in the only badminton competition for markers. The other feature will be the combined doubles in the Open event that was introduced in the last edition.

State bridge championship

The 32nd edition of the Maharashtra State Bridge Championships is set to commence from February 25 in Mumbai at the Mulund Gymkhana. To be played under the World Bridge Federation laws the tournament will see the participation of 45 to 50 teams from Mumbai,Pune,Nagpur,Aurangabad,Kolhapur,Thane and the other districts of the state.Their will be two events namely -Team of Four Duplicate and Progressive Pairs providing a top prize of Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000. The overall prize money will be close to a lakh according to Adv. Makarand Lonkar the President of the gymkhana and the Co-Chairman of the event.The four day event will conclude on February 28 and will be streamed live on Bridge Base Organisation (BBO) for the benefit of its followers. The winners of the team event will qualify for the nationals while the runners-up have the opportunity to play the qualifying tournament. The top six pairs in the tourney will get entry to the nationals. The hosts have also organised their monthly pairs tournament for pairs on the concluding day.

Jugal spins Podar to win

OFF-SPINNER Jugal Rambhiya spun an inexorable spell around the PD Lions College batsmen,handing Podar College a comprehensive victory in the Super-16 Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament (40-overs) at Shivaji Park on Monday.
