Biker held after man he hit dies

The Marine Drive police arrested a 20-year-old student after he knocked down a man near the Islam Gymkhana at Marine Drive,causing his death.

The Marine Drive police arrested a 20-year-old student after he knocked down a man near the Islam Gymkhana at Marine Drive on Thursday night,causing his death.

A police officer said,“The arrested man has been identified as Rahul Jagdish Makwana,a student and a resident of Tardeo. The accident took place around 11.10 pm on Thursday opposite the Islam Gymkhana when a 25-year-old man was crossing the road. Makwana,who was riding his bike in a rash and negligent manner from the Chowpatty side,rammed into him and knocked him down.”

While Makwana suffered minor injuries,the pedestrian suffered serious head injuries. The police have not been able to identify the victim so far as he was not carrying any identification document. The biker and the victim were rushed to the GT Hospital by a police patrolling vehicle,where the unidentified pedestrian died during treatment.

“Makwana was arrested and charged with causing death due to rash and negligent act and was produced in court. But so far,we have not found any evidence of drunk driving,”added the police officer.
