Bid to rob jewellery store; 1 held

The Bandra police arrested a man on Saturday while he was allegedly attempting to burgle a jewellery shop located 100 metres from the Bandra police station at Hill Road,in Bandra west.

The Bandra police arrested a man on Saturday while he was allegedly attempting to burgle a jewellery shop located 100 metres from the Bandra police station at Hill Road,in Bandra west.

Police are now searching for his accomplice,Kallu alias Kalia,who was earlier employed at the shop,Aniline Jewellers.

Police said the arrested man,Gopal Chaudhary (26) had come to Mumbai along with Kallu,from Rajasthan.

Kalia had quit his job at Aniline Jewellers six months ago to return to his village,Junakheda in Rajasthan. He is believed to have taken impression of keys to four locks to the shop’s main door.

Police said Kalia made duplicate keys and roped in Gopal who was reportedly in need of money for treatment of his father to rob the shop.

Kalia allegedly told Gopal,that the ideal time to rob the store was in the afternoon when the owner goes home for lunch.

Around 2 pm,Gopal started opening the store after Kalia,who was standing across the street,signalled to him.

However,a shopkeeper saw Gopal unlocking the door and called the owner to check if he had sent someone to the store. The owner called police and Gopal was arrested. Kalia fled.

“Gopal has been arrested under Indian Penal Code secion for break-in. Kalia is absconding. We are searching for him,” said an officer.
