The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking is steadily expanding its air-conditioned (AC) bus fleet to enhance commuter comfort and improve connectivity across Mumbai. Following the introduction of AC buses on routes A-7, A-511, and RC-53 last week, BEST rolled out another 24 AC buses starting Tuesday, April 1.
In this second phase, two key routes will get upgraded services. Route A-340, connecting Ghatkopar Station (West) to Agarkar Chowk, will see the addition of 15 AC buses. Route A-422, running between Vikhroli Depot and Bandra Bus Station (West), will have nine AC buses added to its operations.
This expansion that caters to the north-eastern suburbs of the city is part of a broader effort to modernise Mumbai’s public transport and bridge service gaps by addressing the issues with dwindling fleet, said BEST spokesperson.
The first phase of the initiative was launched on March 27.
“With Mumbai’s rising temperatures and growing commuter demand, the addition of these AC buses is expected to provide a more comfortable and efficient travel option. We urge passengers to take advantage of these improved services as it continues working towards a more robust public transport network for the city,” said the spokesperson.
The expansion of the fleet is part of the initiative taken up by S V R Srinivas who took over as BEST General Manager on February 7.
