Amid campaigning for 10 elections to municipal corporations,Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan met about 650 students from across colleges in Mumbai on Monday morning in what he chose to call an “apolitical” event, discussing with the students his ideas for the city and urging them to become politically aware and involved.

Also present at the event, which was held at South Mumbia’s KC College campus, was South Mumbai MP Milind Deora and columnist Anil Dharker who moderated the event. Deora said he spoke to Chavan a few weeks ago and the latter agreed that this would be a good way to effectively interact with students from different linguistic backgrounds and to understand their aspirations on a general level.

“It was a mixed bag, with students from Hindi medium,English medium and Marathi medium institutions from across the city and suburbs, all studying different subjects and pursuing different courses.” The Chief Minister also took questions from the students, spending over an hour with them. “He told them about his plans for Mumbai and for Maharashtra and in that context spoke about why the BMC elections are important,” said Deora.
