The aggrieved students approached Yuva Sena (UBT) which has now written to Mumbai University complaining about the admission scam. (Representational)Close to 20 students of Bachelor of Education (B Ed) in a college in Thane are likely to be forced to leave the course midway as their fees were not paid by a coaching centre through which they took admission.
These students took admission in the college in Thane through a private coaching centre in Dadar which assured them about not having to attend lectures.
After completing the semester exam, when they approached the college for hall-ticket for the next exam, they were shocked to know that their hall-tickets were not issued because the coaching centre did not pay their fees. Whereas, the students have already paid the centre.
Complaining that they have been cheated, the students have now approached authorities at the Mumbai University, seeking a solution. Stating that all of them have cleared the Common Entrance Test (CET) which is mandatory for B.Ed admissions, one of the students said, “Since we are already working teachers, we felt relaxation from the attendance mandate will help us pursue B Ed which will help us in career growth. We have already paid more than Rs 1.5 lakh as fee to the centre, only to now know that we have been duped.”
The aggrieved students approached Yuva Sena (UBT) which has now written to Mumbai University complaining about the admission scam. Pradeep Sawant from Yuva Sena said, “This issue came out after these students were cheated. But this is an example of how the admission scams are working and the university should take strict action in this.”
Director of Board of Examinations and Evaluation at Mumbai University, Prasad Karande, who received the complaint letter, said, “We will have to look into the details of the complaint before taking any decision.”
